Since Mother's Day is coming up, any combination of these flowers would make a great gift to remind Mom that she's got a kid who's thoughtful and creative. These are super simple to make, and you can add some extra color by using different bills if you want. It also happens to be one of the simplest flowers to fold since it only requires one bill. In Asian folklore, the plumeria is believed to house ghosts and demons, and in Malaysia it's associated with vampires. So, here are ten different types of flowers you can origami out of a few bucks, for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, or pretty much any other day of the year. What mom wouldn't like a flower made of cold hard cash? You can fold money into hundreds of shapes, like a tiny box or shirt and tie, but flowers are some of the most popular projects, especially when Mother's Day comes around. Origami has been around since the 17th century, but the art of folding money, or monigami for those who are in the in, is relatively new. If you want to do something more artsy, there's always monigami. So, what are we going to do with all that worthless paper when we finally become a cashless society? Dollar bills are quite useful when it comes to bar tricks, and you can use one to crack open a cold one or even roll a cigarette. Even so, with the widespread use of debit cards and the rising popularity of digital wallets, it may not be long before the dollar bill has had its day. Create multiple roses and wire them all to the same stem to create a bouquet if you'd like an even more impressive display.Today, the word jiaozi is more likely to be associated with delicious Chinese dumplings, but paper money is still used in many countries. If you wish, you can then attach the wire to a skewer, floral stake or fake flower stem.When you've added the last bill, twist the floral wire onto itself, making a sturdier stem.Adjust the petals of the bud to make it look attractive. Repeat steps 11 through 13 with your remaining bills, angling each layer so that they look more naturally staggered around the rose. Arrange the petals around the center so that they somewhat envelop the bud.Cross the wire over the new petal and twist the wire 90-degrees again, as in step 9.Place the center of the new petals perpendicular over the twist you made in step 9, making sure the ends of the wire are free. Pick up your bud and flip it over to expose the floral wire.Repeat steps 5 through 7 with a new bill, but this time make sure the rolls are facing OUT. Hold upright and gently form the ends around each other.Use needle nose pliers to flatten for extra security. Give the wire a 90-degree twist like you would on a package with twine, making sure it is very tight against the accordion fold.Place over the accordion fold, with the U-bend over the inside of the accordion. Cut a length of floral wire about 8 inches long and fold in half.Flatten the center as much as possible, but try to keep the integrity of cup shape. Repeat on the other side so that you wind up with a bow tie shape as you pinch in the middle.The folds do not need to be precise, but make them as compact as possible. Carefully but very firmly, start gathering in the sides like an accordion.Do not crease the whole length of the bill, but just squeeze the middle. Hold one bill with the corners curled inward, and pinch horizontally across the middle.Repeat step 2 for the remaining four bills.Use the skewer or a toothpick if desired to get the rolls nice and tight. Tightly roll each corner in towards the center of the back side at about a 45-degree angle.This will help you form the cup shape in later steps. Crease it gently across the middle and unfold again.
